Golden Sceptre (Mary’s Boy)
Billie Michelle’s debut single.
A lament song written from the perspective of Mary, the mother of Jesus, in the moments beholding her beloved Son hanging on a Roman cross. The intermingling of grief, awe, wonder and love for her child is expressed in a poetic retelling of Mary’s heart carrying both memories of Jesus’ sweet childhood and the painful scene before her eyes.

The mercy of God…
The golden sceptre was extended from the hand of the King to his beloved Queen Esther, when she came before him to ask for the salvation of her people. I imagined Mary’s knowledge of the Old Testament would help her conceptualize Jesus as the mercy of God extended to humanity, though God is far from a pagan king…
